Reiki
Reiki is a holistic healing technique that originated in Japan in the early 20th century, founded by Mikao Usui, a spiritual seeker who developed the system after a profound meditative experience on Mount Kurama. The term "Reiki" combines two Japanese words: "Rei" (universal) and "Ki" (life energy), reflecting the belief that a vital energy flows through all living beings. Usui's teachings were later refined and spread globally by his students, notably Hawayo Takata, who introduced Reiki to the West in the 1930s.
Reiki is practiced by channeling this universal life energy through the hands of a trained practitioner to the recipient, either by gentle touch or by hovering hands above the body. Sessions typically last from 45 to 90 minutes, taking place in a calm, quiet setting where the client lies down, fully clothed, while the practitioner places their hands on or near specific energy centers, known as chakras, or other areas of the body. The goal is to balance the energy flow, remove blockages, and promote the body's natural healing abilities, leaving the recipient feeling deeply relaxed.
We practice 2 types of Reiki each with its unique approach and focus:
-
Usui Reiki: This is the original form of Reiki developed by Mikao Usui. It involves a series of attunements that connect the practitioner to the Reiki energy, enabling them to channel it for healing. Usui Reiki uses a set of hand positions to guide the energy to different parts of the body. It's known for its simplicity and effectiveness in promoting relaxation and healing.
-
Kundalini Reiki: Developed by Ole Gabrielsen, this form of Reiki aims to awaken and enhance the flow of Kundalini energy, which is believed to reside at the base of the spine. Unlike traditional Reiki, Kundalini Reiki attunements are said to be more direct and can be done remotely. It focuses on clearing the chakras, particularly from the base chakra upwards, to facilitate spiritual awakening and personal growth.
The benefits of Reiki, when provided by a trained professional, are manifold. It's known to reduce stress, anxiety, and pain, while enhancing overall well-being. Many report improved sleep, emotional clarity, and a sense of inner peace. Reiki is also used as complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments, supporting conditions like chronic pain, fatigue, and emotional distress. While not a substitute for medical care, it fosters a holistic approach to health by addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual imbalances. Its gentle, non-invasive nature makes it suitable for people of all ages, offering a pathway to relaxation and self-healing through the skilled guidance of a certified practitioner.
